My name is Alexander Hamilton..."

In order to generate revenue for the debt incurred during the Revolutionary War, America's first Secretary of the Treasury suggested a tax on a domestic spirit -- Rye Whiskey. This tax incited an outcry that resulted in the Whiskey Rebellion, and ultimately encouraged some distillers to move west from New England. The warmer climate meant they needed to find a new foundation for their distillation -- they found corn and gave birth to American Bourbon.
